There is no difference made between a high or low ropes course within the PrEN: 15567 for Ropes Courses. However, for the most part, it is reasonable to say that a low ropes course relies upon effective spotting and management techniques (see glossary / definitions) to ensure a participant's safety rather than through the use of PPE (e.g. climbing ropes and harnesses). Generally, low ropes courses are within close proximity to the ground and are ideally suited for developmental use. If a low ropes course is used unsupervised then it should conform to European playground regulations.
The design of a low ropes course will depend largely upon the age of participants and the desired outcomes.
