Types of Ropes Course

Developmental ropes course - outline

The majority of modern developmental ropes courses are built on poles and this generally has advantages over a developmental ropes course in trees.  Nevertheless a developmental ropes course in trees can be just as effective and more aesthetically attractive.  It is fair to say that because every tree is different every element is different too, so the term “product” extends to a design of ropes course most commonly built on poles.

Products are generally designed with the following in mind:

  • Minimise the need for expenditure whilst providing the right tool for the job
  • Providing a healthy blend of team and individual challenges
  • Elements that maximum group participation
  • Minimising on-going costs and the need for maintenance and interim inspections

All of the above has been made possible by the development of a variety of products.  These have been tried and tested over many years and therefore provide the perfect developmental tool.

Clients frequently express a desire to have "something unique". As the world leaders in innovation, RCD can relate to such aspirations.  It should be understood however that innovation comes at a price and research and development is expensive. Furthermore a new design will be tried and tested. Design costs alone can be prohibitive.  We therefore encourage clients to utilise an existing RCD structure where the elements themselves can be varied more easily.

Aesthetics to RCD are important although sometimes the aesthetic appearance of a structure must be compromised (to an extent) in pursuit of longevity.  The new generation of RCD products has sought to address this issue; however, it should be remembered that ultimately a ropes course is a tool and RCD will provide you with the perfect tool for your needs.

RCD will generally encourage clients to minimise their expenditure on the basis that more can always be added at a later date.
